A Quick Guide to Building Your Outsourcing Management Team

A small operation might leave this in the hands of one person. If you have a larger operation, a team of people may be required. The people on your team are just as, if not more, important than who your outsourcing provider is. Let’s further review how to build your outsourcing management team.

First and foremost, you need to have someone on your executive team be the head of the operation. This person will act as the primary liaison between the rest of the team and upper management. He will be the champion for all the projects and the requester of resources. If you have a Chief Resources Officer, use him. If there is no such position in your company, pick the executive most suited.

In large outsourcing operations, or if you are outsourcing many processes, consider creating an Outsourcing Project Manager. This person will do all the heavy lifting: directing the team, gathering the research, ensuring the product/service is of the appropriate quality and delivered on time.

The rest of the team, if a team is necessary, should be made up of people either with outsourcing experience or with the technical knowledge involved in the process to be outsourced. Getting input, especially in the planning phases, from people on the ground level will lend perspective and insight into the operation which will create a better experience and return on investment.

Finally, the smaller the team, the better. Keeping it simple is the key. Make sure the entire team is involved in the process from initial planning and creation to delivery. The more familiar your team is with every nuance of the process, the better it will be.
